Holy moly.

"Rat fleas carrying the bubonic plague that killed thousands of people in China during World War II were bred in Singapore.

A branch of the nefarious Japanese b...iological and chemical warfare research and development Unit 731 was housed in the College of Medicine Building during WWII.

Little had been known about the Singapore branch OKA 9420 until history researcher Lim Shaobin acquired Japanese war records and texts.

Mr Lim, who reads and speaks Japanese fluently, learnt from Japanese WWII documents that Singapore served as a base so rats and fleas could be transported overland to two places in Malaya - the 251ha Tampoi Mental Hospital built in the middle of a forested area in Johor by the British and a secondary school at Kuala Pisa, near Kuala Lumpur."

US/Canadian friends (or those who have lived there recently) - if you were planning a trip to these shores, what websites might you look at to help you plan? Is there any particular one that you find most amusing/helpful?

Rachel Lane The provinces have their own tourism websites too - but do you want east coast or west coast ideas? I'm more knowledgeable about the east coast, but if you're into Vancouver or exploring Banff or Jasper national parks - know folk who can advise.

Rachel Lane Oh crap I misunderstood you too. Sorry typing on mobile. Same questions apply, but main tourism site is VisitEngland.com and of course Visitscotland.com and I assume Wales follows suit.

Gino Guay I don't know if it's the wording or me but... what is a participant? I understood that, if someone wants to perform they have to pay a fee and then get selected. But... what about the participant application? If I want to attend any workshop, do I have...See More

Kasper Jacobsen The participant fee is your entry point to take part in the festival. It is e.g. not possible to register for CIIF18 workshops unless you signed up for CIIF18. workshops and show tickets are not included in the sign up fee.
